So i bought this 91 stealth last week and this is what I got. I drove it home with no clutch pedal, it's dead on the floor, slave cylinder is distended, clutch fork is limp. I'm guessing the throw-out bearing exploded, I haven't torn it apart yet to find out. It was a fun ride home. Fortunately in the small towns around here there is no traffic and fewer stoplights. The interior it really nice the only thing is the defroster vents are warped. As for the outside the body is nearly perfect except for a small ding on the passenger headlight lid.
It shows 203k on the odo but i don't think it's right. I'm not sure you can put that kinda miles on a car without wearing out the seat. I bought it from this gall who said she's selling it for her sister, but that didn't make sense. The stereo is worth more than I paid for the car, and the cheap ass cold air intake didn't seem like a girly type of thing. I think she was selling it for her mechanically incompetent husband who was ashamed to show his face after what he did.
The intake was so poorly installed it had fallen off by the time i got the car home. The check engine light was on but the way the car ran i was not surprised. The idle was high, the power was lousy and my buddy who followed me home said it "blew coal like a Cummins" when i stomped on it. I was kinda concerned but for what i paid I wasn't worried about putting some money into it to make it right.
So i get home without killing anybody, without a clutch pedal i only had to blow 2 stop signs. I start fiddling around under the hood to see what my new toy has for me and i find a wire harness loose under the air filter. This familiar looking 7 wire harness? Thinking about it for a while, I haven't been under a mitsu hood in about 2 years, i remember what the harness was. The MAF was totally missing. I found a aftermarket bracket of sorts in the back seat, the adapter to mount the maf in this cheap-ass intake pipe. The former owner was so inept he couldn't figure out how to install it so he removed the maf completely. A trip to the local junkyard revealed a 98 montero, the only mitsu product on the grounds.(yes it's a very rural area) I got the Maf and the harness since the 98 has the 1.5 inch 7pin connector instead of the 2 inch. I swap the wires over and we're perfect no check engine light anymore but the engine idles at 3k. Fortunately the recently departed montero willed me an IAC too. The old one had no connection between pins 1 and 2. I had to swap the end of the shaft over the old one but no big deal. (montero's was wider) So now i have a happy idle speed and a nice running little stealth. Now after Christmas I'll get a clutch in it and see what it does.
The plugs looked like something out of a nightmare, I've never seen plugs so fouled the thing has been running so rich for so long I'm going to gut the exhaust the cat has to be plugged. I'm getting chunks of carbon the size of quarters out of the tailpipe. I honestly don't know how the car was ever running. I don't have to worry about emissions or anything like that so i think I'm gonna have a little fun re working the exhaust.

If worse comes to worse, you've got yourself a nice project car and can probably turn a profit on the steel alone...but I'd rather not see that happen, personally. There's so few left as it is, at least as factory turbos are concerned.

What trim level, so on and so forth?

It's just a base model but is fun to drive all all the same. I 'm not sure what to do with it yet. Planing on throwing a good clutch kit in it and gutting the exhaust for now. I'm surprised the carpet isn't melted as plugged as the cats are.

aighty yall, the clutch is in full new set. Machined the flywheel. the exhaust had a small encounter with a sawsall and is reassembled, minus a few pieces. I'm not too happy with the sound of it though, kackels and sounds kinda hondaish. That's gotta go. I've got a small grind going into 2nd gear too. New fluid in the trans, new slave, bleed and adjusted. The pedal freeplay was way out so i adjusted it this evening and will give it the testdrive tomorrow.

Well, it's still got a grind going into 1,2 and reverse. Bled this damn thing 20 times it seems. Pedal feels good and firm 1/4 inch freeplay. First thought was a synchro was out but with reverse grinding too it makes me think it's not fully disengaging, and I can't find the spec for the clutch fork travel. I read some aftermarket clutches need a longer slave pushrod to function properly. What do y'all think. I need yer input.
