I understand that 161hp vs. 222hp is a pretty big difference. What can I do to get my sohc to 222hp? :dude2:

Well what if I do mods?

Small turbo is all I can think of and even that is gonna cost more than its worth.

The very unpopular yet very accurate answer is that highly modding an SOHC motor will not get you what you want. To get any real power out of the motor you will have to go well beyond bolt on upgrades.

You would be much better off selling the car and buying one with a more powerful motor, DOHC or turbo, or doing a motor swap with the car you have.

Well if I don't stick with the sohc I'll do a dohc tt swap or 3.5 n/a swap. Going to a dohc 3.0 n/a still won't be worth the hastle.

I also found that the dohc has 10:1 compression vs. sohc 8.9:1 not sure how much of a difference it makes but should be some. Also sohc has a smaller throttle body so I can pick up a used dohc one for cheap and get a few hp ... hmmmm what to do?

I also found that the dohc has 10:1 compression vs. sohc 8.9:1 not sure how much of a difference it makes but should be some. Also sohc has a smaller throttle body so I can pick up a used dohc one for cheap and get a few hp ... hmmmm what to do?

Don't quote me on this but i'm assuming that to do a transfer to a DOHC you would need a new ECU and maybe need a whole new wiring harness?

I know for a 3.0 Tt you would.

I did a 3.5 swap on my old 3000gt and its was pretty much a straight drop in as far as i know, no ECU change or anything. but i was coming from a 3.0 DOHC so nothing really changed, just added some Tq and Hp.

Yes it looks like the ecu and wiring harness are different. Not sure what else probably the alternator too. Damn. I might just have to do nitrous or a single turbo if I can get it done for a reasonable price.

If you decide to do a motor swap the only real option you should consider is a 3.5L swap. You would spend a lot of money doing a turbo motor swap, quite likely the swap would cost more than actually buying a turbo car.

Swapping out tb's will make an inperctable difference in power. Even if you installed a high flowing intake, larger tb, and larger intake manifold your gains will be small and you would still need some form of fuel management to really take advantage of the mods.

Once you start talking about spending a big chunk money, it becomes more practical to sell your car and start looking for a decent 1st gen VR4 or RT/TT.

Skip the pussy 222hp and go for 450hp with a LS3.

Poor advice.

Not really.

The statement means that its not worth it to put any money in it.
SOHC is pretty reliable, but as they say:
Between Fast, Cheap, and reliable you can only pick two.
SOHC is Cheap and reliable. not fast.

The DOHC is actually overrated at 222HP - it's probably more like 210 tops. They only dyno a pultry 165-170ish to the wheels.

When von put the 3.5 in my old car it put 172 at the wheels. so the 3.0 is less then that.

I have also heard that the SOHC is more Torquey then hp.

Are you talking about the super low reading Premier Demolition dyno? On a dynojet, that 172 would be closer to 190.

No it wasn't at premier. I have no idea who did it because i was driving by an o'reilly and i saw them doing dyno runs so i did it.

It says dynojet :dunno:

Ouch. A stock NA DOHC 3.0L may not even register numbers on the Premier dyno then.

It will register, but true to its nickname, it just breaks the owner's heart with the number that it registers.

Do you think it would even dyno in the triple digits on that dyno?

Not sure. I want to say that Bill's H22 powered prelude had around 130HP which was higher than I expected but stock those things are supposed to have 200HP. This one had an intake, open exhaust, and Hondata S300 so it had a bit of an advantage over the stock motor numbers.
