Typically that means it's not fully engaged; as the synchros go bad [and due to an engineering brain fart, eventually they will go bad on all manual 3S]it starts to get a 'two-click' feel to it.
The throw on these cars is pretty long...the best way to find the full range of motion is to park it, shut it off, and then work through the pattern a couple times. Keep in mind the tranny has a lock-out in it so you can't go from 5th to Reverse; I don't remember if you have to go to true neutral [center stick] or to another gear before it'll let you in, though.
Also: Welcome aboard!

alright, could it just be needing an adjustment? and if so how do i go about doing that?

That I'm not completely sure on. If I had to guess (this is not expert advice; I'm a code monkey, not a grease monkey), it could be as simple as the bushings on the cables have stretched [about $30 plus install, can source the parts from 3SX] or as complicated as a bent fork.
If none of the other guys chimes in soon, send Xwire a PM; he knows a lot more about these cars than almost anyone else.
