I just bought a '92 Stealth RT DOHC NA, i'm extremely frustrated:wall:, the car won't stay running. If the car is not slowed to an idle before I touch the cluth it dies. When I'm shifting the RPM's plumit like a rock and it dies. Always starts great and popping the clutch restarts it everytime. does anyone have any idea? Is there anything else I should be looking for to help diagnose my issue?

I'm afraid to ask my usual mechanik for help (dad), since he told me not to buy it and I don't wanna hear i told you so if it's something simple I can do myself... Please save my pride

Sounds like the "dashpot" needs adjusting or the ISC (idle speed control) motor is not working properly.

I'm not too familar with the N/A's so it's possible they are not equipped with the dashpot, but it's a little can type thing attached to the throttle body, and when the throttle is snapped shut the dashpot keeps it slightly open for a little bit to soften the idle drop.

In this picture it's the gold thing connected to the throttle body with a black vacuum line comming off one end, the other end touches the throttle cam:

yea the NA's have the dash pot as well, and yes it does sounds like that is the problem

that or a weak IAC motor

I'll look into those thank you

A friend of mine told me that the stealth has two fuel filters and that one maybe out?... does that sound like it might be a possibilty?

There's only 1 fuel filter, under the battery tray. He may be referring to the pump's pre-filter which is basically a screen to keep large particles from damaging the pump, which won't clog in most circumstances.

Doesn't sound like a clogged fuel filter, a clogged fuel filter will cause a leaning at WOT, not on deceleration.

Okay thanks. What is the idle supposed to be set at??

About 750 RPM, A/C off. To set idle there's a specific procedure in the service manual. I can't seem to find the steps right now, might want to search 3Si.
