I have the stock radio still in my vr4. This is the first stock radio I ever wanted to keep. I like the auxilary port and the disc changer. But I wanna upgrade the speakers and add a sub so it sounds as good as my systems in my other cars. Anything I should be aware of when replacing the speakers? And how would I hook up a sub with the stock stereo?

Stock speakers have an impedance of 2-ohms where 99% of the car audio aftermarket equipment has an impedance of 4-ohms, so volume levels will be affected since your amp will be putting out a reduced amount of power. Also speaker sensitivity will be different with aftermarket speakers, which just adds to the difference in sound. To add a sub you will need a line output converter, a normal amp installation kit, subwoofer, and an amplifier for the subwoofer.

So I need to find 2ohm speakers to sound good?

4-ohm ones will sound good, they will just sound different.

My recomendation is a set of components up front so you replace both the dash speakers and the door speakers and then a set of two-way 6x9's in the rear. Then add a sub and you will be in good shape.

Thanks. I wanted to make sure that it doesn't mess up any amplifiers the stock setup may have. I've never had anything but aftermarket
