Actually, you know how every time 3si is down, we get a "3SI Down!" thread here and like alot of traffic for a day or so? We should do the same thing on 3SI when this place goes down for maintenance. Heh.

I like that idea although I'm sure a bunch of people will be like wtf is US3S.org? :h-scratch

I swore I posted in this thread this morning...
I don't think our presence in 3Si is noticed much, harking US3S got me banned once during the "other" administration, lol.

What are you guys doing?

The upgrade should be relatively quick and painless, so people should not be in the cold for too long :-)

It looks the same.

Not that it was running slow, but it seems to be loading pages before I even click them :D clickable emotes aren't working. Edit: The pull downs at the top of the page aren't working either.

there a minor changes here and there, and I am sure there are little things here and there that are going to need to be tweaked, just post them up and we will get them worked out as we can :D

I think the upgrade killed some javascripts...nothing major...we are looking into it...and yeah, it does seem to be running faster

I wish 3SI could get vbb 3.8.
I understand their reasoning given the number of forums they maintain but..... :(
jNive
- April 8th, 2009, 07:04 PM
the more that are maintained, the more important it should be - if even purely from a security point of view.
There are known and expected issues regarding plugins & template/javacript functionality which are essentially still contained in 3.0.3-based customise parts of the forum, these will of course need to be manually checked and updated - but we will get there soon and eveything should be fully functional with some added features to boot.
Speed increases are due to better vB caching, page coding, upgraded database engine class, reduced database table size amongst other things. If you do spot something unusual, just give us a quick shout.

What's the hold-up? Is 3si's vB maintenance outsourced? jNive is absolutely correct on the point of security.

3.8 is a new release their not willing to jump to a release that's this new yet. Its been floating on alot of sites in beta form but the real release is only a few months old and they (understandably) want it to be in the wild a bit longer before they jump in.
jNive
- April 9th, 2009, 02:07 PM
Well that isn't too bad assuming they patch up any security flaws manually etc (aka backporting etc). 3.8 is pretty nice though also with some additional features - Social Groups FTW!! :-)
alan92rttt
- April 9th, 2009, 04:42 PM
I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of 3.8 so I can make a list of new features that the owners would care about.

Haven't they seen what happened to phpbb.com though when they waited 3 days to patch security issues that occurred in the phplist software? Once volubilities are discovered they need to be patched almost immediately on a big site with a lot of users, as it's likely somebody will try and crack the old software.

They install the security patches for 3.7. 3.8 is not a security release its a features release.

All your stuff should still be on the server and in the database. jNive is upgrading the plugin mods like vBgarage, arcade, and will be adding banner management.

-- vB Garage Updated & Working
-- v3 Arcade Updated & Working [some games are still missing]
-- Twitter Integration added
-- Radio & TV Streamer added
-- Ad Management Installed
+ more to come hopefully.
Any questions about use, i'm sure von & matt will be up to speed on things :-)

Most of the pic links are broken in vBGarage. The page comes up but the pics don't show.

Hmm, images are stored in the database, and yours are there. They may be corrupt, though. I don't know what the story is yet with that. Can you re-upload them?
