I have tried to find out the answer to this by searching through this site, but my problem has never really been determined. So I thought I would pose this to everyone out there.
I have a 1991 Dodge Stealth that had a spun bearing. I rebuilt the engine, which runs great. Now the transmission has issues. The car sat for 4 years because of the engine problem, It shifted fine for a little while, but the Over Drive didn't work(Would go into neutral), but without the OD on, it would work in the other 3 gears but not down shift when the pedal was floored. Now, it goes into gear fine when the car is started, but within 5 seconds, it disengages into neutral. If I turn the car off and back on, it again works for 5 seconds and goes into neutral. Has anyone had this issue and has had it fixed? I have about $1000.00 stuck into the car up to now and am determining whether to eat the losses and part the car out, or fix it. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am hoping it is the TCM and not the mechanics.
