300ZX TT or Supra TT

Which would you rather have?

I think I would prefer the 300ZX over the Supra. I know, I know, the Supra is God's gift to asphalt, but in all seriousness and stock for stock, I think the 300ZX is a much better looking car.

Screw the $$$$$$$$$$ that is needed to mod them, just looks better than a Supra.

I disagree. Several years ago, like in the 80's, the 300 was the "bomb", but since then, I think the Supra has become way better looking. The power seems to be about the same but easier to mod the Supra. I like the looks of the Supra better.

I would go with the 300. Before i even know any thing about cars, my favorite car was a 300, a friend of the family had one and i just fell in love with it. I think if you go out and ask your every day normal person what car they would choose they would say the Supra. Arent the 300's lighter? they look it.

I actually like the 300ZXTT better because of the looks. However, it'll never perform like the Supra either stock or modded. There will always be a performance gap that will increase as you get both faster and faster. Still, I'll take a 600 RWHP 300ZX over an 800 RWHP because the extra horsepower developed by the Supra will be wasted in almost every incident.

This can be true for any vehicle. Driver ability, traction etc all play an important role in using high power well.

I don't know which one I would take. One the one hand there is the supra... on the other hand there is the Z... that arugment alone is enough... they both are sweet. I think if it really came down to it, I would take the Z because I have a friend with a dying Z TT, I would just give this one to him to save him from getting just some normal sedan.

300zx TT vs MKIV supra TT...

First of all I think looks would be the last thing to talk about when dealing with the two. They are some of many that look great even stock. I personally like both so couldn't tell you. I was thinking of getting either or, for my first car. The reason why I decided not to is because I need more experience.

I would take the Supra because a few of my friends roll in 300ZX's and then I could stand out. The Z is a sweet ride, but my friends get more than a little pissed off when girls ask them if that's the "knight rider car." (Old 300Z body style) I also like the Targa top vs. the T-tops.

If you plan on making huge power without a substantial ammount of money/engine building, go with the '93+ Supra. Anyone who's worked on the 90+ 300zx know's the engine bay is a nightmare, for those that don't work on their own car's, then you'll only have to worry about the nightmare labor bill. The Supra is a bit of a fat kid in look's compared to the 300zx, (my opinion) but they're both gorgeous looking car's.

The Supra has also appreciated in value over the last 3 year's, where as the 300zx has dropped. '93 300zx book's for around $11,000. '93 Supra mid to high 15's. Nadaguides.com

I always liked the Z's imprinted in the Z cars leather seats or was that only the 240. White with white or tan leather.

Since this thread's come up again I guess I'll voice my opinion...I'd go with the 300ZX because they're not as talked about...everyone knows what a Supra is these days thanks to FAF. I like to drive sleepers that no one knows anything about. I just think there's something cool about roasting someone in a race then them thinking "what was that?" After the race. JUST a glimpse is all ya need...:D

300ZX/Fairlady Z hands down. I love em both, but Ive always been a Nissan fan (Despite that every time Ive gone to buy one I always end up in another brand for some reason. 300zx TT got an SHO, 240SX got a Stealth)

The Supra has the looks, sure, but the 300zx just demands respect because of what it represents. The oringinal 240Z was really the first break through Japanese sports car. IMHO its Japan's Corvette.

I had a 94 with the Yamaha v6, and it is still one of my favs. Low insurance, great performance, and frankly, it saved my life. I got hit at over a 100mph on I45 in Houston by a guy who was screwed up on drugs . I spun 5 times hit the wall 3 and went down the embankment taking out a road sign. Walked away without a scratch.

If I ever found one with a manual that just needed some work, id still buy it. Definately wouldnt recomended it as your only driver though, nothing changes the fact it was surrounded by a ford. Some of the repair bills kept it a love-hate relationship.

Its still a taurus so resale sucks, but if your looking for a sleeper sedan with a 9k red line you can get one super cheap...the first gens are ugly, but they are the quickest...the second gens like mine were the nicest IMHO....

3000ZX is a nice car but its front end resembles a saturn supra is also a nice car but something about the front end pisses me off doesnt match the rest of the car if you ask me, however in my opinion I'd rather have either an RX-7 or a VR-4 both have silly topspeed and the VR-4 can be tuned to over 1000 hp ( had a vid of a blcak one however I recebtly rebooted my comp do to a pop up virus and lost the vid so i can not post) Many people look over VR-4's because of their weight but the AWD helps it out a great deal If you play gran turismo 3 and highlight the 99 GTO they have a real nice disription of the car which shows that it is one of tgheir favored cars, its an amazing car w/ looks that could kill and acceleration that can rip the asphalt apart :) GTO-MR does a 1/4 in 12.8 don't believe me heres the link http://videos.zforcenetwork.com/#

2) I Know how fast Supras are by going to the track, having friends that own it, and going to SupraForums.Com and seeing what the average is.

Magazines are skewed, bias, and full of shit. The term "bench racing" comes to mind. :D

What mods do you have? Stick to a roll if your near stock, from a roll they will eat the VR-4 :(

The only reason they may not stock is the TRAC FUSE.

2nd gens = 12PSI

Supras are esentially 15G at 12PSi but sequential. Stock MKIV should be able to hit 170+ with the trac fuse removed. If we can hit close to 160, they can hit 170 with tighter gearing, less weight, and no AWD.

Even stock, I'd get 2-3 car lengths right off the line. However, they are MUCH faster from a roll than a 3/S TT. Both cars may top out at 160+ but stock vs. stock, the MKIV will put many car lenghts on 3/S TT.

Bottom line.... VR4 will beat the supra off the start.... Supra is fast on a roll start.... I personally love the VR4 the Vr4 might be a little slower than the supra because of it's weight ( AWD ) but there's alot more in racing than just the quarter mile. ( remember that )

Stock vs stock, that may or may not be true considering how I can barely manage 1.8 60's. You'd expect that the AWD should.

There's a lot more reasons than just weight as to why it's slower.

You may love the VR-4 but it doesn't hold a candlestick to what the Supra has/can do unfortunately. Gotta love your car for what it is but to assume its better by simply opinion is blind.

In terms of performance, a fat car with small stock turbo housins, and shitty stock fuel system is a bad start :)

AWD is shit after your in the 11s, everyone has traction then.

I think the car looks better too but in terms of performance, we just don't compare.

supra beats all, imo, simply because of looks, rarity, reliability, and the crazy resale value. yes, they are pretty much king of the highway, but it takes a lot of money to get their crazy hp compared to a v8, again though, the reliability issue is ridiculous.

Hm. It's probably alot cheaper to get 600RWHP out of a Supra than most other cars. Of course it depends on what mods (Supras are very overpriced) and where you start.

I would say any FI car with as huge aftermarket as the Supra isn't that expensive to get big #s. Shit, BPU Supras make like 400RHP

If you didn't know, the 300zx also came with all wheel steering too, called HICAS, but most tuners remove system when upgrading turbos, b/c pump gets in way (the pumps up front). B/c all my miles are highway, i'd take the supra, drove one once and loved it, totally smooth, but never quite liked the dash as much as 3/s. I ended up with the 3/s b/c of AWD, but I hate VCD's, so I wish I could have bought an STI, computer-controlled clutch type center, and LSD both front and rear.

<hijack> Plain and simple, once we're off the line the overdrive-happy transmission kills acceleration. I think if the Rob Beck/MR mod ever takes off, then the 3S will turn a few more heads. 12.8 is a much better starting point that 13.5.

Hell, Auggie, if I could have afforded it, I would've bought your 6-speed, shot it off to Kormex for a quaife and the 5-speed diff gear and then dropped it into my baby. I know I need the transfer case too, but you see what I'm getting at.

I have a friend with a ~400-450HP Z, and you just cannot keep that thing planted. Saw him (ok, I was in the car) race a 3/4 cam early 90s 5.0 mustang, didn't hook up until 3rd gear. Still blew it away. I've never been in a Supra to compare, but the Z is a little too small and the cluster a little too crowded for my tastes. At 6'0, I actually fit better into my 3S. For me, the Z is 'been there, done that', so I'd probably take a Supra just for the experience.
