Just got my new issue of Motor Trend yesterday and noticed a little writeup in there about the 03 Neon SRT-4. What do you guys think about this car. The numbers on it are just insane.
2.4L DOHC I-4
215 hp
245 lb-ft torque
2900 lbs
11-14 psi's of boost
0-60 5.9 seconds
FWD
The front end looks different as now it has a functional hood scoop and the rear has an arc spoiler. It still looks cute but definitely more aggressive than is predecessors.
This thing should be available 1Q03 and the price is less than $20k.
If you ask me, I think that is a lot of bang for the buck. Also consider the fact that the aftermarket for the Neon is already there. Get ready guys to get smoked by these Neon's on a semi regular basis.
A few mods and these things are street cookers. What do you think.

I don't play with Matchbox cars anymore.
Looks too much like my Grandmothers car.
Somewhat impressive numbers.

I have heard a lot of people downplaying this car, i.e. at the end of the day, you are still driving home in a Neon, but in all honesty, you gotta admit, this car is going to be a serious player.
I don't think it would be a bad daily driver for that matter. Pretty quick stock. Throw on a EBC, gauge, intake and exhaust and you are seriously in the money.
Laugh at me, but I like it. I am not ashamed.

Notice that last pic is at some ghetto warehouse. Uhhhh muufaasssa. First thing I would do to that bitch is drop it! I'd buy one and take my TSI for trade in.

That torque number seems high to me, anyone else? Its still a neon, and it looks really bad. I might get beat by it, but i will look better doing so.:D

Looks pretty sweet for a Neon...
Pretty fast stock too. Looks better in the vids than the pics.
I'm trying to get my friend to buy one as soon as they hit the showroom, he owns an R/T Neon now.

R U serious??? 223 FWHP? Damn! My car put down a meager 163 FWHP. Thats kind of humbling. By the way welcome ZUMin3k. I have seen some of your posts on 3SI too and I now your not really new but I saw it was your first post here.

Thanks for the welcome :) I post a lot on 3SI, and I would post more here too, but mostly every post I look up is really old....We should try to get some more people to post on this site so it will get more interesting. 3SI gets old after a while.

IronFish.. do you loose any speed at take off or anything being an automatic?
IronFish

Well my take off sucks. The automatic tranny is a total dog til about 20mph. A shift kit would fix this. The way mitsubishi designed the tranny was to produce less "slippage" and smoother shifts than the manual. This allowed a smoother ride but more of a drivetrain loss. So in short, from a stop I am at a severe disadvantage to most cars. From a roll though its better. I have taken down a few different cars from a roll but I rarely race anyone.
