I am thinking about doing a roof swap on my 94 SL. From what I have understood is that you can cut out your old roof with no sun roof and weld in a roof with a manual sun roof. Am I right in thinking this? Also, would a 2gen stealth roof fit my 2g 3000GT? What about first gen?

It sounds feasible. I am wondering though if any reinforcement is required.

I don't think that any additional reinforcement would be needed. Our reinforcement is due to two bars going over the doors. It you look at the roof right by the top of the window, you can see where the weld is. I think the actual roof is just a sheet of metal. I have found that 3/s roofs with manual sunroofs go for anywhere between $150 and $500. Not that bad for a sun roof, only I think that I will have it professionaly installed. So it will probably be expensive anyways. Has this ever been done?

I am sure it has been done many times as well as Targa tops and Convertibles. I say go for it. :thumbsup2

Are the stealth roof's the same as the 3000GT roofs?

I believe so. I don't think there is any difference in the roof until you start sliding down to the B-pillar.

Why not just get a after market sunroof installed and save yourself the trouble?

Becuase they arent as big as the removable glass roofs. Also, I haven't heard any good things about aftermarket sunroofs. If you do a 3/s roof swap, then its all 3/s parts designed by mitsu. Everything is specificly designed for the car, so theres less chance of problems like leaking. Besides, it sounds like its about the same price as getting a quality aftermarket sunroof, maybe less.

I've heard about someone installing a stock sunroof. It was about a year ago while searching 3Si. Let us know what you find out because I'd like to be sunroofin' next summer! :D

If only it were as easy as just cuttin' the roof into a T top:D . I wish it were that simple. I think a 3000GT with a targa or T-top would look so sexy! I've heard the only way to make a T-top or targa work is by adding a roll cage and other stuff to stiffen the chassis. That seems like alot of time, money, and fabrication. Almost too much work in my opinion (key word ALMOST).
