Which intake do you think is the best for our cars?

Does it really matter if it is a K&N, HKS, or just a knockoff.

I am curious as I just purchased a new K&N FIPK with the tube to TB connection. It looks like fine but I see the HKS ones and they just look tighter.

Is there a big difference between the K&N style and the HKS style? Performance wise that is.

i have always heard that the air filters are all roughly the same. that you won't notice a difference, even if there is a difference in the filters.
if you check out autophysics.com (I believe that is the correct site) they have some enormous ones. I used to have a generic one from extrememotorsports.com in my old Talon. It was basically the same as a K&N. If I were you I would just try to find one that is the same material as the K&N. That way, you can use the K&N recharger liquid kit to clean it, which makes it easy.

I agree. Just stick with the K&N style filter. You can't go wrong.

Plus it comes with the nifty bracket.

Whenever I get around to getting a filter I'm going to go with the 3SX filter - it's the cheapest available, looks nice, and seems to be of good construction from the one I've seen. Someone on 3SI recently put a filter on his base 99 VR-4, I think it was the HKS Super Mega Flow, and got 10-12 awhp to the ground on AAM's dyno. :o

Get outta here. 10-12? That's insane. That would have to be a crank gain of around 40-48 hp. I find that hard to believe on just a filter alone.

Did they have dyno sheets to back it up?

I believe so, yes.

Even assuming a 50% driveline loss, your math doesn't add up. I'd say a max of 16-20hp at the crank.

Driveline loss is not a percentage once you start modding your car. It's only going to take X horsepower to move all the driveline parts. When you add more horsepower to the crank, the driveline isn't going to decide it needs to take more power to operate.

Yeah, but 10-12 to the wheels?

Most people just say get the intake on eBay. It's around 20 to 25 clams and they work just fine.

I personally have a K&N FIPK so that I could also get the bracket to hold it up. Almost 200 clams that route.

The one that I think looks the best is the HKS, but you are looking at over 200 clams for that one.

BTW, welcome aboard.

Welcome. As Richard stated, it depends on your monetary situation. There is proof that the K&N produces more power but it costs more money. The others are copies of the K&N but alot of people swear by them.

If anything I don't think the gains are significant, when it comes to my car I normally don't go cheap but with this I'd go cheapo:D and welcome

What I meant to say wa that the K&N have actually been tested to prove their claims. I have not seen any proof of the other systems. You are paying for the R&D on the K&N. How different they are in actual numbers, I don't know. Is it significant, on some systems, yes. Just personal preference.
