Will just getting a race pipe/running no cat improve performance? My friend says he can feel more pull w/o the cat. What do you guys think?

Agreed. I had forgotten just how much, but I had to put the cat back on for inspection, and it almost felt sluggish. I put the pipe back on and was like wow!

When you take off the cat, the exhaust fumes don't get burned up anymore. That's what you're smelling.

It's not a real pleasant smell. And as Tool Man referred to, if you have emissions make sure you keep your cat to put it back in when you go in for inspection.

It smells like exhaust, not trying to be funny. It smells like an older car, before cats smells.
