i have the factory radio in my car, but the tape deck and stereo part doesnt work. underneath it is a factory cd player.
does anyone have a stock stereo that works that they want to sell? i want the stock setup because i have the controls on the steering wheel and want to have that function, but also, i dont know how to cover up the hole that would be left by taking the whole setup out and replacing with a aftermarket stereo.
how does the stock stereo sound? is it pretty good? i dont need a whole lot of bass and a bad ass system, so if the stock setup is pretty good i want to stick with it. if not, ill just get a different stereo.
also, do the cars normally come with a factory amp? i popped off one side panel by the radio, and it looks like there is a factory amp sitting on the bottom. is this an amp or something else?

I have the factory stereo with CD player controls. If I can find it I'll sell it to you. You'll need to get a code from the dealer, after you remove the stereo it goes into a theft mode and won't play until you put in the code. I'm not sure how it sounds, it was out when I got the car, all I know is it does work. $25.00 plus shipping?

The different year cars didn't have compatible radios. 91-92 (no amp or changer, Yes in dash CD), 92.5-93 (changer, No in dash CD), and 94+ (amp and changer, No in dash CD) each group might be compatible. They show a different wiring diagram for each year and they usually show a common if the wiring is the same.
The wiring changed from year to year. A shop manual would be required to see if you can modify the harness to work. Pins 3 and 4 are switched in connector D-35 between 1992 and 1993.
94+ cars used different connectors on the back of the radios.
The majority of cars older than 93 did not have factory amps (some Stealths may have amps).
The device described may be the Climate Control Computer
Discount Stereo carries a module that converts the steering wheel controls to IR.
Check the ground on your radio. It gets a ground from the mounting screws under the trim piece. Radios can be repaired at a shop setup for OEM radio repair.

Pop out the trim ring around the radio, bottom first. Then unscrew the brackets, 4 screws. That will remove the factory deck. The said alarm is an anti-theft device locks the radio when it loses constant power.

For what it's worth, I've been using the factory stereo in a 92 R/T. I had a set of Infinity Reference series speakers installed in the doors and the back, which seem to be well matched for the stock head unit. The head runs off it's own built-in amp. Yur not going to hear it from 10 blocks away, but it gets as loud as I could possibly want it, and sounds great. Good luck...
