hey people, turns out my front brakes are shot. by shot i mean that my rotors need to be resurfaced and the pads need to be replaced (please keep in mind i have stock brakes). instead of bringing my cars braking performance back to stock, i was thinking about upgrading them. of course there is the brembo big brake kit which will cost $2500+ and upgrades everything. however i have also seen on ebay an irotors (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7922233859&category=33564) kit that will replace the rotors, pads, and brake lines (with steel braided lines) for about 2g's less but not replacing the calipers. is the brembo kit worth the money? are my stock calipers good enough to compare to the brembos if i chose the irotors path? any other ideas?

i wouldn't go to the big brake kit. yeah you will feel a diffrence, but there is nothing wrong with the size of the rotors on our cars now, they have some good stopping power. i was gunna suggest drilled/slotted rotors and high qual pads. that irotors deal looks pretty good, 4 drilled slotted rotors, 4 braided lines, and pads all around all for $439? i like it. looks like a quality company, i say go for it. just ask about warranty.

I went with Porterfield rotors with Hawk pads and the car stops VERY nice. A lot of brake dust though but for the price/performance, it's a good deal.

Definitely get some different rotors. Ive heard good things about irotors. Be careful on ebay though, somtimes you can get screwed. What was that other one? Rotora or somthing like that. "Green stuff" pads are supposed to be pretty good too.

ebc green stuff pads are said to be good, but ebc has pads called "red stuff" that is a lot better because i believe its for track use. rotora has a 4 piston caliper kit (similar to the brembo big brake kit) that goes for $1500, but its only meant for base model and sl 3000gt's. i plan on autoXn my car and i hope that the irotors kit would be sufficient to take the abuse. i have heard that its very risky buying car parts from ebay (like certain polished y-pipes for our cars that turned out to be crap), but shouldnt a good approval rating be enough to trust the seller?

Green is good for SL (lighter car) unless you are REALLY using the brakes hard then go Red. For VR4s/TTs go with red due to the cars extra weight. I have used both and they are both great. I have greens on the SL-T and they pull me from 120 down to 5 at the end of the track damn quick, smooth, and consistant. They also don't dust.

Yeah sorry Rotora wont do you jack then. I did knoe about red stuff as well and knew that they gripped a lot stronger. I thought they might be overkill if that vr4 is a daily driver. On second thought why not get the better ones anyway. Im not thinking straight. i didnt know youre doin auotx so if your always on it wa hard then reds are definitley better.
Even with the SELLER being credible its still shaky in my mind. I just dont want you gettin screwed thats all.

i wouldn't wry about how credible the seller is but how credible the company is. www.irotors.com gives no warranty and takes no responsibilty for all rotors sold by their vendor. the rotors are not theres and they send them out to be slotted/drilled. that sounds very discouraging to me.

Why dont you go with the porterfields then? And some red stuff pads. Sounds like they are both well approved. Thats definitely a good option, but ask around a little more and get some more opinions before making your decision. That goes for anything you do to your car.

sounds good, but how about the brake lines? upgrade or leave stock?

thats personal prefrence, in theory they help a little, a long the same lines as going to the hard pipe kit for turbos. it's also dresses up the area a little. i would but i'd rather spend my money on bang for the buck items at this point.

SS braided Brake lines will improve the pedal feel but wont really increase braking performance very significantly. I would change them out if you havent before though.
