Does anyone have any ideas on trick suspension mods and tires for autocross racing? I had a hard time keeping this guy off my tail and spun out twice doing so!

Three weeks ago I was at Grattan with the Midwest Council for the practice autocross sessions and was disappointed with the handling on the track. Basicly I have stock tires on the car, Addco rear sway bar, and Cusco rear strut bar. In the first session on the third lap one of the U-brackets on the Addco bar just broke. And I was just beginning! Removed the bar and finshed out the days race.

Anyone have experience with autoX and what works on the track for these cars??

First, what kind of car are you driving? Is it an RT or an RT/TT? No actual experience here with AutoX but I do like to race around the twisties whenever I can.
I noticed you only have the rear suspension mods. Sway and Strut bars. Have you thought about adding at least a strut bar to the front? Obviously the sway bar would help also.

Pair that up with some really grippy tires and I think you are on the right track. I currently run on these tires right here. Click here (http://www.us3s.com/freeforum/showthread.php?threadid=203)

Also, are you running your stock brakes and rotors? A big brake conversion could help you slow down faster when you need to.

I have a '91 Stealth DOHC NA RT. Started with the rear suspension sway bar because of the small (3/8 " dia) OEM bar, next to be installed was the rear strut bar. Some where in my plans, I was going to add the strut bar for the front but I think the front OEM sway bar is sufficient.

I've being checking reports on a variety of tires but put off a decision because of the vast differing reports. Its about as controversial as opinions on spark plugs! I'm looking for a 17" tire and forged wheel combo which would reduce unsprung weight. I heard picking the right combo can reduce it by up to 15 lbs over stock.

Brakes haven't been a problem, I'm running Stillen cross drill front and rear rotors which I've had cyro treated. This in combination with EBC Kevlar green pads front and metal matrix rear pads give me sufficient stopping power (granted big brakes would be better, but at a cost of $2500 for big breaks its a matter of the biggest bang for the buck).

I thought about a lowering kit and coilovers but I'm not convinced I want to give up the ride and ECS for a small handling improvement, tire/ wheels might make the biggest difference??

Wow, it seems that you have almost everything taken care of. Nice list there.

Have you gotten some tires and wheels yet?

Lower the car with some Eibachs and you will be good to go. You won't lose your ECS either. Make sure your ECS shocks/struts are in good condition before installing the springs. The handling of the car will greatly increase with just the lowering springs alone.
