Or at least something like it. What do you think?

Another angle

I think it looks hella aggressive. Kind of Trans Ammy but still cool. I might go for a different style but I still want the scoops. I will probably drill holes into the hood for heat dissapation.

l like it! It does look a bit more aggressive! Do you have any more pics with hood scoops similar to that?

Does it have any real practical use and what would the benifits be if any?

You know I went to the store and put those ones above on there and they looked kind of wierd with the hood blisters. Didn't really like how it looked. They had another one, kind of looked like an old Pontiac GTO scoop. Small riser with two opposing inlets. That one looked better.

They attach to the hood with some type of 3M adhesive so in order to make them functional, I would have to bolt it to the hood and cut out a pretty large hole out of my hood in order for the scoop to not fly off at high speeds.

I will look into other options, but I def want some type of scoop.

Mainly for looks and an aggressive stance. If I were to cut a hole out of my hood and install it over, it would help disperse some heat. Same basic thing that the modified hood blisters do, only with those, they are releasing heat from the front air dam and then up, the scoop would push it through the top and down.

Looks familiar.

Cool. I know those are very popular on trucks down here also.

Look at this one.

and here it is on a Mustang. I like this one better than the dual.

Those are stick on and they are ABS plastic and come in black, so they have to be painted but are fairly easy to install if you pre-mark and align before removing the double sided tape. You also have to prep the stick area. JC Whitney and Summit have them. Made by Lund, but I imagine there are also copies out there but the ones from lund also include the chrome Lund insignias you can apply.

those hood scoops on that 3k look kinda crooked, or is it just me? they don't seem symmetrical. about that little hoodscoop, my friend has it on his mustang, it looks pretty cool.

Racer 007
- July 16th, 2002, 10:07 AM
Yeah, it's a bit off centered. You can tell by the Mitsu emblem.

I like that little scoop. It looked pretty cool on my car and different too.

there's a red 1st gen stealth r/t tt with that little hood scoop on 3si.

I was checking this one out on Ebay but it is pretty long.

I think they are but the angle of the photo is not centered. If you look at the amount of car showing in the rear on each side you'll see the car itself isn't a straight on view which makes the scoops look not centered.

It'd look better if they were actually built into the hood.

I totally stink at graphics, but I think it almost looks better this way. Kind of like the pontiacs which is what I would like to do but more of an exact match than these and fiberglass.

Racer 007

That does look like pretty Pontiacy. Good PS job BTW.

Pretty tough looking Richy. The 1st one that is. Not sure that it would look good on a 1st gen, due to the blisters. I think it would look like to much is go'en on. 94+ models, would look cool.

I'm look'en to get more air in there myself. :D

What did you think of that smaller GTO style scoop Sean?

Sean 91 VR4
- July 17th, 2002, 10:48 AM
Actually, after looking at both, the smaller one looks better. I think the 2 Lg. single scoops might be an over-kill. I need to find a scoop that will fit the contour of my hood, along with those nasty blisters. My idea is to get all this done, for relatively cheap  I really don't want to spend the amount of $$$ it would cost to buy an aftermarket hood. Ya know?

I still like my design for a side, ram-air type scoop. :D

Racer 007
- July 17th, 2002, 11:02 AM
agreed. that little one is only 60 +/- clams. it comes in black but can easily be painted. It is just a stick on though.

That is pretty much the cheapest that I can see and it fits perfectly to the contour of the hood.

Ebay has some pretty cool ones. The Cobra Jet looks nice also but now sure how it would fit.

How comfortable do you feel cutting up your hood? That's the real question :( No editing tools for that job!;)

I want one of those. Nice PS job. That looks awesome.

Comfort level in cutting my hood. Pretty good. I wouldn't do it myself. I am getting my car painted and they could easily do it there.

Racer 007

Found my scoop. Just paid for it and it should be here in a few days. It is a Cobra Jet and it should look pretty nice molded to the hood.

I can't attach a pic till I get home. They are too big.

Got any pics yet? :-)

Are there any hood bump-replacement scoops that look good?

Also, I'd be worried of something entering the engine bay! I mean, driving in rain, water would naturally flow towards the windshield...

Stage 1 is complete of my scoop installation. I didn't take any pics yet because it hasn't been painted yet. All I can say is the cobra jet looks majorly tough.

I will add a couple of pics before it went on in a few minutes.

AbsurdParadox

Right, it already flows that way, but with open scoops, it'd be like driving around without a hood wouldn't it?

Richy, The scoop pics are in your email ;)

Racer 007

Kind of. The air will flow right through it and out the back. I cut a whole into the hood so it is functional but the hole is only about 5x3. Much smaller than what I was hoping for due to all of the hood reinforcement. I didn't want to cut into that at all. Kind of sucks but it will serve the purpose of moving some heat out of the engine bay through the top. Plus, the holes in the front of the scoop have a mesh grill. This should help deflect some of the rain. Remember though, I live in the desert, not much rain here.

Hey Sean, I sent you two pics to see if you could resize them.

Stage 1 is the hood scoop.
Stage 2 is next and should be completed tommorrow. I can't wait for that mod. Can anybody guess what that is?

After the NG, I will be going back to the shop that is installing stage 1 and designing stage 2 to see if they can come up with something. They have already expressed an interest in it. I don't like the Bozz Speed ones. Kind of ugly IMO. Any ideas anybody for the strut bumps? I might come up with something myself also and show it to them to see if it would be a problem. They are pretty cool and do damn good work.

Monday afternoon it should be totally ready. Painted and everything. Pics will be up here right after.
