Hey guys I have a 92 R\T with about 170K miles on it. Last week I noticed a drop in horsepower and a little smoke. So I pulled it apart and did a compression test on it. Front three cylinders 180 on the mark twice, wet and dry. Back three 90 exactly half twice again, wet and dry. Before I pulled it apart I suspected head gasket but normally one of three cylinders would be way off or maybe even two of three. Also this is the 3.0 DOHC non-turbo engine and at higher rpm's it seems like I can hear one of the cams making a little rattle noise. I also lined up the timing marks at the end of each timing gear and it doesn't appear to have jumped time. If you guys can help me out in any way or give me some other tests to run I would really appreciate it, and yes this motor is completely stock. Thanks

Sounds like a head gasket or the bearings or the rings. Those are the only things that should cause that.

HG = Probably white smoke
RINGS = blue smoke

I was wondering if you guys thought that maybe it might have jumped time. I'm getting ready to tear into it this week and was wondering if you had any advice or tricks for me. I was also wondering if anyone else has had any trouble with their 5-speed popping out of fifth gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

If you did the rear after the front how long did it take you to pull the intake and get to the rear spark plugs. If the car was too cool it would throw off the numbers a little.

It reads a lot like stuck valves or bad lifters.

2 solid hours for plugs. It's not that hard. Go slow and take ur time.
